Wrike: project and task management tool

Tuesday April 8, 2008

Wrike is an innovative Web-based project and task management tool that is affordable, easy to use, and structured well for small Web teams. I recently wrote a post comparing Wrike to Basecamp, the best-in-breed project management tool for Web designers.

There are 3 things that Wrike does differently from Basecamp that is especially appealing to Web workers who are not Web designers:

  1. Wrike charges per user, not per project. This lets you create hundreds of projects (or groupings of tasks) while only paying $3.99 per person per month.

  2. Wrike has two-way email integration. Not only does it send you reminders and a daily todo list, you can create new tasks via email! This is my favorite feature because it's so convenient.

  3. Wrike is still being actively developed. This is good and bad news. The developers are definitely listening to their users, and I see exciting and useful new features being released on a near-monthly pace. On the other hand, it's not "finished" and may be a bit rough around the edges.

Thanks for the recommendation! I really felt like I needed something more flexible than Basecamp. This tool looks exactly like the one I was looking for.

Thank you for the great review! We appreciate your feedback very much. We do our best making Wrike the best on-line project management software. Thank you for letting your readers know about it. The next big release we are working on is task dependencies. So stay tuned!

Hello,

I recommend to try ProjectOffice.net- online project management tool that is still in beta and free. You’ll be surprised by its simplicity. ProjectOffice.net has all basic project management features.

I dare to recommend another feature rich and free online project management tool - http://www.comindwork.com. It offers advanced security options, enterprise wiki, task management, tickets, time tracking, projetc blogs and much more/

Just wanted to mention another great alternative - SantexQ. I work in a small office and have found it to be great for task and time management. It’s also free to use so that was a big plus for us.

Having looked at both wrike and basecamp, we settled on Wrike as the better tool. With Wrike you get much more integration between different project objects, and the interface is just great. Love the ability to see projects as a Gannt chart, and to edit your projects within Gannt chart mode. We get a lot of projects that have to be put on hold while we focus on more urgent issues that have cropped up. Wrike allows you to do this, enabling you to link related tasks into a time focused order, then moved linked tasks and projects around with one movement.

Wasn’t so fussed with the email integration at first but I have to say, once you have used it, you wont look back. Now able to deal with incoming email in half the time because I can just forward any emails that have embedded tasks in them into my project management system and its all there waiting to be dealt with and prioritized. ( rather than doing it there and then before moving onto the next email, because I know if I don’t, I’ll forget to do it)

this tool has made a huge difference to our ability as a team to manage a multitude of tasks and deadlines, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for something a bit more use friendly than MS project, with a bit more joined up thinking than basecamp offers. My whole team love it.
