I have to admit that, until recently, I never even considered using anything besides Adobe Acrobat to create, edit and view PDF files. They created the PDF format and they make great software. But as it turns out, they don’t have a monopoly on the PDF format. Whats a PDF file?
There are a number of alternatives to the very popular and comparatively expensive Adobe Acrobat, including the capable Nitro Pro.
Learn how Nitro Pro can streamline income tax preparation and filing.
What is Nitro Pro?
Nitro Pro is PDF creation software. It is promoted as: "Everything you need, and nothing you don’t". This keeps the costs down – currently priced at $99 - a third of the price of the industry standard, Adobe Acrobat. It offers a full set of features including:
- View, create and combine PDF files
- Scan & OCR PDF files
- Edit PDF Files
- Reuse content from PDF files
- Review, annotate, sign-off and approve PDF Forms
When I first opened the program, I felt as if I had used it before. This is thanks to the ribbon navigation bar (developed by Microsoft). It functions smoothly and tasks are intuitive. I’ve long been an Adobe Acrobat user, but after this review, would certainly consider switching. Why wouldn’t you, if you can do everything you need to but for less money? Depending on your Acrobat version, it might actually cost you more to upgrade to the newest Acrobat version than to purchase the full Nitro Pro software. Certainly worth checking out.
Key Features of Nitro Pro 7
Microsoft’s Ribbon Navigation: If you are a Microsoft Office (2007 or newer) user, you’ll have virtually no learning curve using Nitro Pro. The ribbon is the navigation bar along the top and is a feature that Microsoft users love. Simply, ribbon navigation replaces the standard drop-down menu format. I love ribbon navigation because it keeps everything visible and speeds up document creation / editing. The ribbon tabs are: Home, Edit, Review, Forms, Security, and Help. Nitro Pro is the only PDF editor to use the ribbon.
Simplified PDF Creation and Conversion: Easily convert a PDF file back to its original/source file (like word or excel) and edit in it the native application. This feature is a great time saver and helps you avoid the Copy/Paste process which can really distort the original formatting.
Word Processor-like Text Editing: The new Nitro Pro 7 has improved text editing that resembles a traditional word processor. Inside of the program you can update, modify, and replace text, as well as adjust font size and formatting. Text is edited within paragraph blocks, giving automatic reflow and formatting – features that you’re used to in a word processor.
Sign Documents Electronically with QuickSign and Digital Signature: Similar to a rubber stamp, QuickSign creates a signature equivalent to a facsimile signature. In contrast, a Digital Signature is authenticated and thus legally binding. Both options are supported with Nitro Pro 7. These features are great – no more printing, signing, scanning and emailing. Sign documents electronically in just one step.
Other New Features of Nitro Pro 7
Evernote Integration If you are an Evernote user - you'll see the benefit. If not, why not learn more about Evernote?
Dynamic Stamps: Using custom stamps you can auto-populate specific information, such as time, date, location, user, and more, giving you the ability to track approvals and sign-offs as they happens.
Why Use Nitro Pro Instead of Acrobat?
Well, price is a pretty convincing factor to make a switch. Compare the fully featured Nitro Pro 7 at $99 to Adobe Acrobat Standard ($299) or even Adobe Acrobat Pro ($449).
But as every business owner knows, price alone is a poor reason to make a buying decision. After a full review of this program, I’m convinced that it will do everything that you need. Wondering if Nitro PDF Inc., is worthy of your business? They have been downloaded more than 40 million times (free and pay versions). They are not a fringe developer. If you are shopping for PDF editing software, you should try Nitro Pro 7.
